HAIR TYPES CLASSIFICATION

TYPE I: STRAIGHT Straight hair reflects the most sheen. It also is the most resilient hair of all the hair types. It is hard to damage & next to impossible to curl this hair texture. Because the sebum (natural oil produced by the skin) gently works its way from the scalp to the ends without the interference of curls or kinky. Which is why this is the most oily hair texture.

TYPE II: WAVY
Wavy hair is classified as ‘Type 2’. This hair type lies between straight and curly hair. It also imparts sheen, more than curly hair, but less than straight hair. The further down the spectrum you go, the less sheen the hair will impart. Wavy hair is typically more prone to frizz. While ‘Type-2A’ wavies can easily alternate between straight and curly styles. Type-2B & 2C are more resistant to styling.

Types: 2a , 2b, 2c

TYPE III: CURLY
If you pull/stretch-out a strand of type 3 hair, you’ll notice it has a definite ‘S’ shape. Granted, the ‘S’ may be a lower-case or upper-case ‘S’. It may even resemble a ‘Z’ on some occasions. However there is definite curl pattern in place with or without any hair products in the hair. This hair type is full bodied, climate dependent (humidity: prone to frizzing), and damage prone especially when left moisturized. Lack of proper care renders dull curls, tangles, dryness, and breakage.

Types: 3a , 3b, 3c

TYPE IV: KINKY
Despite misconceptions, this tightly coiled hair is quite fine & fragile. It is wiry and delicate by nature. Each strand usually has a zigzag pattern. Kinky hair is the driest hair type. Thus it is more prone to breakage and requires a gentle touch. A misconception exists that this hair type does not grow. Kinky hair texture grows at the same rate as any other hair texture (6 inches per year). However, it does break more than other textures (if not properly maintained) giving the illusion that this hair type “doesn’t” grow. This hair type must be treated very gently & carefully like a glass ballerina figurine. This hair type takes a little more effort & maintenance in order to prevent breakage and to have “length retention”.

Types: 4a , 4b, 4c
